Healthcare Marketing New Year’s Resolutions- Part 5

A continuation of my initial post. This will be last in the series. Check out the links at the end of this post to review all the resolutions.

5. Do One Experiment

In my days doing pharma marketing, I saw very few experiments. Down in the labs, it was all experiments, of course, but somehow that never made it around to  the rest of the company. Here’s my challenge then: try one thing that your company has never done before. Yes, I’m telling you to take a flier. Don’t put $5 million behind it, but rather $50,000 or even $25,000, but give it a real chance. You don’t have to be the first ever in the world to try it (although I’d recommend that too), just do it first at your company. Follow Reckitt Benckiser’s example and create a MySpace page for your brand. Or follow McNeil Pediatrics’ (J&J company) and create a Facebook page. Just try something. And don’t forget to set up a way to see if it works.

But, even if it doesn’t work, you’ll have learned something. Share this with your company. You’ll learn a bit more how the technology works. Not familiar with Facebook? Well, you can read article after article about it, but you’ll never “get it” until you simply play with it on your own. The knowledge you’ll get from this experiment will more than pay the cost. Oh yeah, and your experiment just might work. If you’re ready to start and don’t know where to begin, drop me a note.

Thanks to everyone who’s read the 5 days worth of resolutions. Let’s see if anyone follows them. If you can think of some other resolutions you’d like to see healthcare marketers follow in 2009, leave a comment.

Here are the links to each of the individual resolutions in case you missed any of them:

1. Give Up on Compliance

2. Stop the TV Ads

3. Pass on Social Networking/Media/Marketing

4. Pick a Fight with Your Regulatory Team

5. Scroll up. You just read it.
